Introduction to Copper Clad Laminate Sheets Commonly Used for RF, Microwave, and High Frequency Boards

Hits : 9

When designing PCB circuits at microwave frequencies, the key characteristics that define the performance of RF, microwave, and high frequency printed circuit board laminates include dielectric constant (Dk), loss factor (Df), coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), thermal coefficient of dielectric constant (TCDk), and thermal conductivity.

The most familiar high frequency material to RF, microwave, and high-frequency sheet laminates users is probably polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a synthetic thermoplastic fluoropolymer with excellent dielectric properties at microwave frequencies. Below is a brief overview of the major laminates sheet suppliers we are familiar with, as each material is processed a little differently, it is critical to understand exactly how these materials will be affected by each process.

Xinchenger Electronics is mainly engaged in high frequency microwave RF induction printed circuit boards and double-sided multilayer circuit boards fast sample and small and medium batch production services. The products mainly include: microwave RF high frequency boards, Rogers/Rogers high frequency boards, ARLON high frequency boards, special circuit boards, and professional production experience in high frequency circuit boards used for power dividers, couplers and combiners, amplifiers, dry amplifiers, base stations, RF antennas, and 4G antennas.

Experience in engineering CAM is critical to ensure that your PCBs are built to last, as these boards all have very different rise and fall factors. Without a proper process control flow and some inspection equipment (e.g. x-ray machines) to control alignment and stacking deviations, it would be difficult to improve yields and thus not provide enough confidence to customers.

We work closely with our customers at the design stage and invest in precision equipment every year to ensure that our company always meets the needs of our customers for RF and microwave high-frequency boards.

Isola High Performance PCB Laminate Sheets.

Since its founding in 1912, Isola has been an industry leader in the development and manufacture of laminated copper-clad laminate substrates. They have an optimal balance between cost and performance when selecting substrates. Key factors that microwave and millimeter wave board designers must consider when selecting high speed RF or microwave laminates include dielectric thickness, dielectric constant and loss factor, as well as small tolerances between batches.

RF high frequency design requires extremely precise control of dielectric constant, line width and dielectric thickness.

Rogers rogers sheet for rf/microwave circuit design.

As one of the longest publicly traded companies in the U.S., Rogers has a wealth of innovative technologies for solving end-customer challenges. 1949 saw the introduction of the first RT/duroid® material for electronics applications, and today the RT/duroid® line of high-frequency PTFE compression-molded materials is the industry leader in high-speed RF/microwave PCB design. The Rogers Corporation motto is "Enhancing, Protecting, and Connecting Our World.

Utilizing Rogers' advanced materials and Xinchenger Electronics' application knowledge, global resources, engineering and design resources, our team is able to provide comprehensive solutions for RF, microwave, and high frequency board manufacturing.

Due to the wide variation in properties of different HF board sheets, most PTFE PTFE PCB laminates require special equipment and processes to manufacture high reliability PCBs.The most famous brand name for PTFE formulations is Teflon Teflon, Teflon used to be used for non-stick pans. This material is difficult to use without proper and sufficient experience.
