A. Single Layer PCB

The construction of single layer is very simple in PCB. It consists of a laminated and soldered layer of dielectric conductive material. First, it is covered with a copper laminate and then with a solder mask. An illustration of a single-layer PCB will usually show three color bars indicating the layer and its two overlays: gray for the dielectric layer itself, brown for the copper laminate, and green for the solder mask.

A) The Advantages of Single-layer PCB:

  1. a, Low manufacturing cost. Especially for the production of consumer devices, cost-effective.
  2. b, Easy to produce, component drilling, welding and installation are relatively simple, unlikely to cause production problems.
  3. c, Affordable and easy to mass produce quantities.
  4. d, For simple circuits, ideal for low-density design.

B) Single-layer PCB Application Products:

  1. a, Calculator, the most basic calculator using a single-layer PCB.
  2. b, LED lights: single-layer PCB boards are commonly used in the production of LED lights, LED lights due to the circuit is relatively simple, single-layer PCB board can meet its needs.
  3. c, Radio, such as general store of low-priced radio alarm clock, usually using single-layer PCB.
  4. d, Coffee machines, coffee machines usually use a single-layer PCB.
  5. e, Audio: audio circuits are relatively low complexity, single-layer PCB boards can meet its needs.
  6. f, Household appliances, some household appliances, the use of single-layer PCB.
  7. g, Electronic toys: electronic toys usually need to use some simple circuits, single-layer PCB board can meet its production needs.

B. Double-layer PCB:

Two-layer PCB is copper plated on both sides, with an insulating layer in the middle, and components on both sides of the board, which is why it is also known as a double-sided PCB. much like a one-layer PCB, but with an inverted mirror image of the lower half. With a two-layer PCB, the dielectric layer is thicker than with a single layer. In addition, the dielectric is laminated with copper on both the top and bottom sides. In addition, the top and bottom of the laminate are covered with solder mask.

An illustration of a two-layer PCB usually looks like a three-layer sandwich with a thick gray layer in the middle representing the dielectric, brown stripes on the top and bottom representing the copper, and thin green stripes on the top and bottom representing the solder mask.

A) Advantages of Double Layer PCB:

  1. a. Flexibility of design makes it suitable for a wide range of equipment.
  2. b, Low-cost structure, which makes it convenient for mass production.
  3. c, Simple design, greatly reducing labor costs, more intelligent.
  4. d, Small size, reduce the size of the product volume size, suitable for a variety of equipment.

Design stage of double layer (aka double sided) PCB. traces are routed on top (red) and bottom (blue).

B) Dual Layer PCB Applications for Products:

Dual layer PCB are suitable for a wide range of simple and more complex electronic devices. Including:

  1. a, HVAC units, various brands of residential heating and cooling systems include double-layer printed circuit boards.
  2. b, Amplifiers, two-layer PCB are equipped with amplifier units used by many musicians.

Printers, a variety of computer peripherals rely on two-layer PCB.
